Our culture and philosophy is about dynamism and talent. It’s a huge part of what makes our business special and is driven by our values. Understanding what these values really mean, and what they look like in action, is the first step in enabling each of us to truly live them.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Our Entrepreneurial spirit value is one of our key driving forces. It keeps us eager to learn and hungry to grow.

When we first developed our values, there was some debate about whether we should define this driving force as our ‘entrepreneurial mindset’ or ‘entrepreneurial spirit’. But it is so much more than a mindset, it’s something that we feel deeply.

It’s what drives us to roll up our sleeves and take action, to get the most out of everything we do, and to get things done. To think and behave like a business owner.

Our entrepreneurial spirit drives us to constantly improve ourselves and never rest on our laurels.

Longevity

As the name implies, Longevity is our way of describing the emphasis we put on long-term thinking. Everything we do, we do with care and precision, because every action we take today has an effect on our collective future.

It’s the counterpoint to our entrepreneurial spirit, we are nimble, we act quickly, and we take advantage of opportunities that come our way, but we must still be mindful of the impact of our actions on our long term vision and objectives.

It also makes for a demanding environment, operating at speed with high standards of quality and excellence.

The result? Being surrounded by a great team with high expectations of themselves and others to do things well and get them ‘right’.

Respect with Challenge

Our Respect with challenge value often prompts questions about what it really means. The order of the words is actually quite key to us, it’s intentionally respect with challenge, not challenge with respect.

This places the emphasis on the mutual respect between our stakeholders including colleagues, Partners, clients, and suppliers that is very important to us, but recognises that this doesn’t mean we can’t challenge them or that they can’t challenge us.

It points to our non-hierarchical and dynamic nature where we actively welcome and encourage all employees to ask questions, contest existing practices, bring new ideas and challenge each other (and themselves), to reach the best possible outcome.

This does mean you have to be open to being challenged yourself though, knowing that it is being done with the best possible intent. At the same time, you have to have the courage to question and remember that it is a practice that is encouraged at every level.

Integrity

Integrity is one of those values that is seemingly obvious. For us, the honesty and ethics element of Integrity is a given. Of course this is a basic expected minimum standard of all our colleagues.

What differentiates our value of Integrity is the focus on coherence between thoughts, words and actions.

One definition of integrity, linked to this idea of coherence is “the state of being whole and undivided”. By holding dear the value of integrity between what we think, what we say and what we do, this helps us avoid politics and operate as a whole, working to achieve our common goal. It is inextricably linked with our value of Respect with challenge, since it requires us to speak up if we disagree with something, not just nod politely and then voice our disagreement behind the scenes. This concept of integrity also links to our value of Entrepreneurial spirit, if you say you’re going to do something, do what you said you would do, coherence between words and deeds, leading to action and getting things done.

Finally, it is also fundamental to our value of Longevity, this value is about acting with the long term in mind, and when it comes to building long-term trust-based relationships, coherence and consistency between what you think, what you say and what you do, is key.
